As a plein air painter living and working in New York City’s East Village for the past 40 years, my desire is to capture in paint my feeling for the old streets and architecture of my neighborhood and environs. I often include the everyday hustle-and-bustle on the city streets against the backdrop of the historic buildings that seem to live and breathe the continuity of life. The countryside and the effects of weather are also of primary interest to me. I am constantly amazed at the immense variety of nature, and I feel freed by its spaciousness. In some unexplained and inexplicable way, my paintings are a link between the city and the country. In New York City I studied at the Art Students’ League and privately with a student of Max Beckmann; in Europe I did independent study. I have had solo exhibitions in several cities throughout the United States, including New York City, and in Amsterdam, Holland. I have participated in group exhibitions in museums and galleries in cities throughout the United States, including New York City. My work is in the permanent collection of several museums throughout the United States. I am on the Board of the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors. In 2019 I received a grant from the Stobart Foundation to execute and exhibit five paintings. My paintings are currently on view at the Berkshire Art Gallery in Great Barrington, MA.
